As this year comes to a close, I wanted to share the accomplishment of one of my bigger 2010 goals. This year I went through the process of becoming a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP).

In other industries mechanics, accountants, attorneys, plumbers, electricians, etc. are required to be certified in their field. Obtaining certification affirms that the individual has passed a comprehensive exam as well as met other requirements, and possesses knowledge, extensive experience, and is appropriately skilled in that particular field. But what about the photography industry? These days it seems that anyone who gets a new dSLR camera prints up some business cards and markets themselves as a professional photographer. Whether or not they actually know the basic elements of exposure, composition, or color – in truth anyone can call themselves a professional photographer. When I looked at the saturation of photographers the marketplace, I felt that I needed to do something to differentiate myself from the pack. So although anyone can call themselves a photographer, very few can call themselves Certified Professional Photographers.

Chicago is a huge city, and clients have a choice of literally hundreds of photographers here. But did you know that there are only seven certified photographers within 20 miles of downtown Chicago?

Introducing little R, 12 days old. What a cutie pie! She was so good thru her whole newborn session. She barely cried and only needed to eat once. And props to her big sister for such awesome cooperation. Have you ever seen a 2-year-old hold a newborn like this for a portrait?! I was so impressed.

I met my cousin’s new 4-week old son on Friday. What a cutie! Here’s a little sneak peek from the session.

Also, I am experimenting with more features of my new blog. This is called a Lightbox Gallery. You should be able to click on one of the thumbnails and it will enlarge. Then by clicking on the right side of the enlargement, you can scroll thru the other images. In the past I had tried a flash gallery sneak peek, but realized that someone viewing the blog from a non-flash-enabled phone could only see the first image of the bunch. With this Lightbox Gallery, all of the images should still be visible from a phone. I welcome any feedback or comments on this type of presenation!

Six Days New

Is there anything more fresh, perfect, and sweet than a 6-day old baby? Why yes there is - TWO six day old babies! I had so much fun with these little ones. They were so good thru the whole session. I want to send out a huge thank you to their mom for bringing them to me just six days after her c-section. I am sure there are many things more relaxing she would have liked to be doing 6 days postpartum.
