Gorgeous Mom-To-Be

My good friend Paul is a retired wedding photographer.  When he found out his first grandchild was on the way, he talked to me about taking some maternity portraits of his daughter Karen.  Karen really wanted to do some outdoor maternity pictures.  I have done many maternity sessions but all of those sessions have been in the studio.   I thought that if Paul and I put our heads together we could come up with a great outdoor plan for his daughter’s pictures.   We started out the day with lunch at Gumba Joe’s in Park Ridge (Paul’s pick, totally a “guy place” with sandwiches as big as your leg…ha!) and then proceeded to explore various photo spots around town.  Here are some highlights from a fun day with friends.

Sabrina - These are so gorgeous, Jes! And yum the thought of lunch made me so hungry! Is the the cutest mama to be or what? You rock this natural light! Love the leading lines in the first one and the tulip and ultrasound!

17/52 – White

Thank goodness generic acetaminophen is white or else I would not have had anything to photograph this week.  My entire family has been stricken with a terrible virus over the past two weeks.  It started with my son, then MacGyver got it, then my daughter and I together.  My daughter is on the upswing right now but I am still miserable.  My doc sent me for a chest x-ray yesterday to rule out pneumonia.  If I could just get this fever to break I know I would feel so much better.  My throat hurts so much that I can barely swallow.  If there is a silver lining to this cloud, it’s that I lost 5 pounds from being unable to eat.  LOL!

16/52 – Perspective

per·spec·tive, n. : A mental view or outlook

My kindergartner has been fortunate to participate these past two months in the accelerated reading program at his school which normally doesn’t start until second grade. The first level of achievement in the program is the “cardinal pin” (the school’s mascot). Taking comprehension quizzes and earing points has completely changed my son’s perspective on reading. It has given him a new determinaton and purpose and he pretty much drops everything to make sure he has time to read each day. This week he got his cardinal pin and the excitement level was thru the roof. His teacher gave him a hug and spun him around. He called from school to tell me when he got the pin. And this was the happy face he came bounding off the bus with.

Julia - That boy; smart as a whip, charming, kind, funny, crazy-adorable…he is one AWESOME kid! Love this shot of him – totally captures his personality.

Family of 3

It was so nice to meet this gorgeous family recently.  Their 1-year-old daughter is simply a doll.  She was so easy-going and just went along with whatever we wanted to try.  Here are a few highlights from our session.

And I am thinking about making a studio sample of this black-and-white one because her cute little gentle smile here makes ME smile whenever I look at her.  :)
