I was over at my best friend’s house this weekend and got a chance to see how she is displaying her kids’ baby part collages over the bed in the master bedroom. Since they sat so nice for the picture above, my friend let them get a little crazy afterwards. ;)

Inspired for Valentine’s Day

I am teaching a 4-week online studio lighting workshop this month at ClickinMoms. The most recent lesson is about using strong light ratios to add drama to an image. I have been so excited by some of the amazing portraits created by my workshop participants that I was inspired to use some of those techniques with my own kids today. So here they are in their red valentine-ish clothes, all dramatically lit. My daughter made a valentine’s day sign so we had to move the lights back around and take one evenly lit shot too.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I hope you get to do something special with the ones you love.

10 Days Till Christmas

Christmas is in ten days, so I think it’s finally safe to assume holiday cards are being sent out. Whew! I am therefore excited to start showing some of this year’s holiday sessions, and will kick things off with my own nephews and niece.

I love the power of Facebook and how it connects people. The mom of these three cuties went to my high school but she was not in my class. Through mutual friends, she had seen some of my work on Facebook, got in touch with me, and last week I was honored to photograph her kids. The session was a late 6-month session for her little girl (she’s 8 months now), but we photographed all of the kids. The two older boys were so mature and well-behaved. They were happy to help me and did a great job trying to keep their sister smiling. Thanks, guys!

I was honored to be chosen by this family to create some portraits for them before their mother leaves the country for a year. They were teasing their dad because he wasn’t smiling much during the session, but look! I definitely got some smiles. How could a father not smile when surrounded by such beautiful daughters, right?

Introducing little R, 12 days old. What a cutie pie! She was so good thru her whole newborn session. She barely cried and only needed to eat once. And props to her big sister for such awesome cooperation. Have you ever seen a 2-year-old hold a newborn like this for a portrait?! I was so impressed.
